THAT ORANGE IS MY DESTINY. LOOK AT MY DAMN NAME!
At first i thought, Brick and Tennis… And thought that isnt right.. but i got it..
How ’bout another orange?
At least there’s Lozenge. Unlike Mr Wolf.. poor Mr Wolf..
“Orange has almost no perfect rhymes. The only word in the 20-volume historical Oxford English Dictionary that rhymes with orange is sporange, a very rare alternative form of sporangium (a botanical term for a part of a fern or similar plant).” Taken from: http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/us/words/are-there-any-words-that-rhyme-with-orange
Maybe this year’s dance can be different?
Someone posted this to a writing group, and it inspired me to write this poem.
I wish I had found your site first and read these great comments!
I am now thinking of adding a link to your page. Let me know if that is okay or not. Thanks!
love the poem! and yes always okay to add a link
I’m a big fan of your webcomic, which I often show in my linguistics classes. One of my favorites is “Every year, the same for Orange”, which I find both sad and hilarious. I’ve frequently used it to illustrate the arbitrariness and historical contingency of rhyme, and the students (seem to) enjoy it immensely, though perhaps they’re just being kind…
Anyway, I’ve recently written a Facebook post incorporating some of the linguistic concepts I’ve often used your comic to illustrate, and have also developed it into a sequel (of sorts) which I call “The Year it all Changed for Miss Orange”.
I hope you like it, and that you can forgive me the impropriety of editing your comic.
With all best wishes,
